The Ted Jeffries Memorial Park Master Plan is a staged project over two years to plan, design and construct the following:

• Design and construct – Off-Lead dog park
• Design and construct – Seymour Street reconstruction, kerb, pipe stormwater, gutter, footpath etc
• Design and construct – Skate Park improvements, basketball court and outdoor youth and recreation area
• Design and construct – Car park works and parking for buses
• Design and construct – Soccer pitch upgrades and soccer pitch extensions
• Design and construct – New clubrooms/changerooms

The budget to plan, design and construct the above is $3.4 million. The project has been funded by the Federal Labour Government ($2.3m) and the Brighton Council ($1.1m).

The project is progressing well. Here is an update as of August 2024:

• The funding agreements were signed in late 2023 with the Federal Government.
• The off-lead dog park including fencing, landscaping, water, seating, signage, bins etc is completed.
• Irrigation for the grass and garden beds for the dog park area is currently underway (July – August 2024).
• Detailed design for the new soccer club and change rooms is nearly completed and will go to tender to construct in the coming months (2024).
• The existing club room building is currently in the process of being removed from the site (August 2024)
• Construction of the new club rooms is expected to commence shortly after (2024). Please find a link to a copy of the draft 3D illustrated drawings.
• Detailed design for the carpark and Seymour Street road works have been completed. Tender to construct will commence this year (2024).
• Detailed design and extensions of the expanded soccer fields have commenced. The final works will include irrigation, additional fencing, new turf and improved access.
• A design for the skatepark, basketball court and youth area is complete and detailed design and tender will likely be next year (2025).

Council continue to work closely with the Brighton Storm Soccer Club and Football Federation Tasmania to develop and implement the Master Plan.

Council have contracted SLS Landscape Solutions for the Brighton Town Square project.  Machinery and storage sheds will begin to be set up from 16th September 2024, with the project expected to be completed by mid-February 2025.

Elements and landscaping to be installed are;

• Picnic/play lawn area
• Bench seating and picnic style bench seats with tables
• Shade sails
• Garden beds with advanced trees
• Water play feature
• Catenary lighting

Brighton Council has received a Federal Government grant through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development to construct the Brighton Regional Sports Centre Facility at Pontville.

The grant includes the construction of a clubhouse building and other associated improvements to the site, including access, parking and landscaping.

The facility will meet the AFL preferred facility guidelines for a regional facility and Cricket Tasmania’s guidelines for a premier facility.

Brighton Regional Sports Centre – Pontville – Concept Only

In 2019, Brighton Council received a $1.7 million Federal Grant under the Community Developments Grant programme to develop the Regional Parkland component (Stage 2) of the Bridgewater Parkland Master Plan.

The below image is a concept taken from the Master Plan. The  design will be refined in the coming months and Council will be seeking community input on the design before it is finalised.

It is expected that Bridgewater Parkland Stage 2 will be completed in late 2020.

Residents will recall that Inspiring Place conducted a survey on behalf of Council at the end of 2020 to really understand what the local community wanted and needed in the Cris Fitzpatrick Park area. They also spent time at Bond Place with a ‘talk’ stall so kids and parents could chat directly about their hopes for the future of the park.

The draft Master Plan incorporates feedback from over 160 residents.

The draft Master Plan is an aspirational plan that is likely to take 10 to 20 years to deliver in numerous stages.

It’s anticipated that Stage 1 will be delivered within the next 3-5 years.

Council is very excited to be able to share this draft Master Plan with local residents.

In 2017 Council received a State Government Grant under the Community Infrastructure Fund to upgrade the walking tracks and to provide two new shelters along the East Derwent Highway between Herdsman’s Cove and Bridgewater. A key component of the project was to improve the grades either side of the Jordan River Bridge to create a safe and more user friendly environment for prams, wheelchairs, families and other users.

The total cost of the project is $639 750, with Brighton Council contributing $348 000, Centacare Evolve Housing contributing $30 000 and the grant funding was $261 750.

The pathways were completed in late 2018 with the shelters to be constructed in 2019.

The Bridgewater Bridge is reaching the end of its serviceable life and does meet contemporary loading and design standards. This critical part of the transport and freight link between the northern and southern regions of Tasmania has been earmarked for replacement.

The replacement bridge will be funded by State and Federal Governments.
